The HP 398291-001 SAS/SATA adapter converts a 29-pin SFF-8482 SAS connector into a 7-pin SATA connector and a 15-pin SATA power connector. It allows you to connect a SAS drive with the regular 7-pin SATA cable and without a backplane. Please note, a SAS controller is still required. SAS drives will not work on SATA controllers.
